Layout

The X-Bows Knight Plus is a premium ergonomic mechanical keyboard featuring a CNC-machined aluminum alloy unibody, X-Bows' distinctive radial-columnar layout, and a detachable 21-key magnetic numpad. Its modular design combines ergonomic typing with flexible numeric entry for programming, spreadsheets, and everyday productivity.

  • Radial-Columnar Ergonomic Layout: The 86-key main keyboard is designed around natural finger movement and more neutral wrist positioning.
  • Detachable 21-Key Magnetic Numpad: Position the numpad on either side of the keyboard or remove it to create more desk space. The numpad is independently programmable.
  • CNC Aluminum Unibody: A precision-machined aluminum alloy chassis provides a substantial, stable typing platform.
  • Hot-Swappable Mechanical Switches: Change compatible switches without soldering to personalize your typing experience.
  • QMK / VIA / VIAL Support: Customize supported key mappings, layers, and macros. The main keyboard and numpad use separate firmware and are configured individually.

What Makes Knight Plus's Design Different?

X-Bows Knight Plus combines a radial-columnar ergonomic layout with a detachable magnetic numeric keypad and a precision-machined aluminum chassis. Its modular design gives you flexibility in both hand positioning and everyday productivity.

A Detachable, Independently Programmable Numpad

The 2026 Knight Plus features an 86-key main keyboard and a detachable 21-key magnetic numpad. Position the numpad on either side of the keyboard or remove it when you need additional desk space.

Placing the numpad on the left can help right-handed mouse users keep their mouse closer to the main typing area, reducing unnecessary sideways reaching.

The main keyboard and numpad are independently programmable devices, each with its own firmware. This enables separate customization of supported key assignments and functions.

Keys Arranged Around Natural Finger Movement

Conventional keyboards use staggered rows. Knight Plus instead arranges its keys along radiating columns designed to follow the natural movement paths of the fingers.

The angled geometry and centrally positioned thumb-accessible keys encourage more neutral wrist positioning and reduce unnecessary sideways finger reaching.

Precision-Machined Aluminum Construction

Knight Plus features a CNC-machined aluminum alloy unibody that creates a rigid, substantial platform for mechanical typing.

The modular magnetic numpad complements this premium construction, combining a substantial keyboard chassis with flexible desk positioning.

For firmware installation and independent keyboard/numpad configuration, see the X-Bows Knight Plus Setup Guide .

Ergonomic Benefits & Adaptation

What Ergonomic Benefits Can You Expect?

X-Bows ergonomic keyboards feature a radial-columnar key layout designed around the natural movement paths of your fingers. By encouraging more neutral wrist positioning and reducing unnecessary sideways finger movement, the design aims to improve typing comfort and reduce unnecessary mechanical stress.

In the X-Bows 2024 Customer Experience Survey, 80.1% (149 of 186) of respondents who answered the RSI-symptom question reported some improvement in their symptoms.

How Long Does It Take to Adapt?

Switching from a conventional staggered keyboard to the X-Bows radial-columnar layout involves learning different key positions. Adaptation time varies depending on typing habits and individual experience.

In the same customer survey, 71.3% (184 of 258) of respondents who answered the adaptation question reported becoming accustomed to the X-Bows layout within two weeks.

Becoming familiar with the layout does not necessarily mean returning to a previous typing speed within that period.

About these findings: The percentages represent self-reported customer experiences across X-Bows keyboard models. They are not results from controlled clinical trials or guarantees of individual outcomes.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the magnetic numpad work on the Knight Plus? +
The X-Bows Knight Plus features a detachable magnetic numeric keypad that gives you the flexibility to choose where and when you use it.

Magnetic attachment: The numpad attaches magnetically to either side of the main keyboard, providing a convenient way to change your workstation layout.

Flexible positioning: Attach the numpad on the right for a traditional keyboard arrangement, move it to the left to keep your right-handed mouse closer, or remove it entirely when you don't need numeric input.

21-key layout: The current Knight Plus features a 21-key numpad designed for numeric entry and other frequently used functions.

Independent programming: The numpad is a separate programmable device with its own firmware. You can customize its key assignments, shortcuts, and macros using supported QMK, VIA, or VIAL tools.

This modular design makes the Knight Plus useful for spreadsheet work, accounting, programming, and other tasks that alternate between typing, numeric entry, and mouse use.

For firmware updates and configuration, the main keyboard and numpad must be connected and configured individually.
Why put the numpad on the left side? +
Placing the numeric keypad on the left side of your keyboard can make your workstation more comfortable and efficient, especially if you use a mouse with your right hand.

On a traditional full-size keyboard, the numpad extends the keyboard to the right, often forcing right-handed mouse users to reach farther sideways. Moving the numpad to the left allows the mouse to sit closer to the main typing area, potentially reducing excessive shoulder abduction and unnecessary arm movement.

A left-side numpad also lets you enter numbers with your left hand while keeping your right hand on the mouse. This can be particularly useful for spreadsheets, accounting, CAD applications, and other workflows that involve frequent switching between numeric entry and mouse navigation.

The X-Bows Knight Plus features a detachable magnetic numpad that can be positioned on either the left or right side of the keyboard, or removed entirely when not needed.

Left-side placement is optional rather than universally better. Choose the position that best suits your dominant hand, workflow, desk arrangement, and personal comfort.
Can I program the numpad separately? +
Yes. The detachable magnetic numpad on the X-Bows Knight Plus is a separate programmable device. You can configure its keys independently of the main keyboard using QMK-compatible tools, including VIA and VIAL.

You can remap the numpad's keys, assign shortcuts and macros, or create custom layouts for tasks such as spreadsheet work, programming, video editing, and gaming.

The Knight Plus main keyboard and numpad have separate firmware files. When updating or changing firmware, each device must be connected and flashed individually using the appropriate firmware file and QMK Toolbox.

For configuration instructions, firmware downloads, and supported tools, please refer to the X-Bows Knight Plus Setup Guide.
Did the Knight Plus numpad change in 2026? +
Yes. Earlier versions of the Knight Plus magnetic numpad had 22 keys. The 2026 version has 21 keys, a revision introduced to improve compatibility with standard numpad keycap sets.

The current Knight Plus configuration is an 86-key main keyboard with a 21-key detachable magnetic numpad.

If you own an earlier model, please confirm your numpad version before purchasing replacement components.
Which mechanical switches should I choose for my X-Bows keyboard? +
The best mechanical switch for your X-Bows keyboard depends on your preferred typing feel, noise tolerance, and how you use your keyboard. X-Bows offers several Gateron switch options with different characteristics.

Red (Linear): Provides a smooth keystroke without a tactile bump or click. A good choice for gaming, fast typing, and users who prefer consistent key movement.

Silent Red (Linear): Offers a smooth typing feel with reduced noise. Ideal for shared offices, quiet environments, and late-night typing.

Brown (Tactile): Provides a noticeable tactile bump without the loud click of Blue switches. A versatile option for everyday typing, writing, and programming.

Silent Brown (Tactile): Combines tactile feedback with reduced typing noise. An excellent choice for office professionals and frequent typists who prefer a quieter keyboard.

Blue (Clicky): Produces a distinct tactile bump and audible click. Suitable for users who enjoy strong feedback and a traditional mechanical keyboard sound.

Other switch options: Selected models also offer White and Black switches. Their characteristics and availability depend on the specific model and switch version.

For most first-time mechanical keyboard users, Brown switches are a reasonable starting point. Choose Silent Brown if you prefer tactile feedback with less noise, or Silent Red if you want smooth, quieter keystrokes.

Switch preference is personal, and no switch type is universally best for preventing typing fatigue or discomfort. If you plan to replace switches yourself, verify that your keyboard supports hot-swapping and that the replacement switches are compatible with its sockets. Older X-Bows keyboards may require different switch technologies.
How long does shipping take? +
In-stock orders are typically prepared and dispatched within 1–3 business days (Monday–Friday). After dispatch, standard international shipping usually takes 7–12 business days, depending on the destination.

Worldwide shipping costs $10 for orders below $60 and is free for orders of $60 or more.

X-Bows offers a 30-day change-of-mind return policy for customers who decide their purchase is not the right fit.

You may request a return within 30 days of receiving your order, provided the product is unused, in its original condition, and returned with all original packaging, accessories, cables, and included components.
