FAQ – Ergonomic Keyboards

Frequently Asked Questions

Compatibility

Which operating systems are supported?

With the exception of the Lite model, all other X-Bows keyboards work plug-and-play on Windows, macOS, and Linux — no drivers required. Simply connect via USB-C and start typing. Mac-specific keys (Command, Option) can be fully remapped via VIA, QMK, or a dedicated web-based configurator.

Will it work with my iPad or Android tablet?

Yes. X-Bows keyboards are HID-compliant and work with any device that supports USB or USB-C keyboards, including iPads (with a USB-C adapter) and Android tablets.

Is it compatible with gaming software like Razer Synapse or Logitech G HUB?

X-Bows keyboards use open-source QMK/VIA firmware rather than proprietary gaming software. All customization is done directly in VIA (browser-based, no install needed) or QMK Configurator.

Switches & Customization

What switch options are available?

Depending on the model, X-Bows keyboards are available with popular MX-compatible switches including Gateron Red (linear), Brown (tactile), and Blue (clicky). Check each product page for the exact switch options available for that model.

Are the switches hot-swappable?

With the exception of the Lite model, all other models support hot-swapping, allowing you to change switches without soldering. This is noted on the individual product page. If you're unsure, contact us before purchasing.

Can I use custom keycaps?

Yes — X-Bows keyboards use standard MX-compatible stems. Most aftermarket keycap sets will fit, though the unique ergonomic layout means some keys (especially the thumb cluster) may require included or custom keycaps. We recommend checking the layout diagram on the product page.

Can I remap any key?

Yes. Every key is fully remappable using VIA (no install, works in Chrome/Edge) or QMK Configurator or a dedicated web-based configurator (Crystal). You can create layers, macros, and custom shortcuts.

Only the Lite model requires the installation of dedicated software.

Software (QMK & VIA)

What is VIA and how do I use it?

VIA is a browser-based keyboard configurator. Visit usevia.app in Chrome or Edge, connect your X-Bows keyboard, and remap keys in real time — no software installation required. See our VIA Setup Guide for step-by-step instructions.

What is QMK and do I need it?

QMK is open-source firmware for advanced customization (complex macros, tap-dance, RGB control, etc.). Most users are well-served by VIA alone. If you want to go deeper, visit our QMK Setup Guide.

Will my layout settings be saved if I unplug the keyboard?

Yes. Remapped layouts are stored in the keyboard's onboard memory and persist across devices and reboots.

Setup & Getting Started

Is the keyboard difficult to get used to?

The ergonomic columnar layout has a learning curve of roughly 1–2 weeks for most typists. Users consistently report reduced wrist strain and improved comfort after the adjustment period. Our setup guides include tips to speed up the transition.

Do I need to install any software to start using the keyboard?

Only the Lite model requires the installation of dedicated software.
All other X-Bows keyboards work immediately out of the box on any OS.

Where can I find setup guides and documentation?

Visit our Setup Guides section for QMK, VIA, and model-specific documentation.
