Frequently Asked Questions
What are the "Magnetic Feet" included with the Knight?
+
The X-Bows Knight includes two detachable magnetic silicone feet designed to provide stable support and adjust the keyboard's typing angle.
Unlike conventional keyboards that use fold-out plastic legs, the Knight features a magnetic attachment system. The feet attach securely to the underside of its CNC-machined aluminum chassis and can be removed when not needed.
The silicone material provides grip against your desk, helping keep the keyboard stable during typing. The detachable design also avoids the hinges and moving parts commonly found in traditional flip-out keyboard stands.
You can choose whether to use the magnetic feet based on your preferred keyboard height and typing position. A flatter keyboard position may be more comfortable for some users, so we recommend choosing the setup that keeps your wrists relaxed and relatively straight.

Is the Knight hot-swappable?
+
Yes. The X-Bows Knight ergonomic mechanical keyboard features hot-swappable mechanical switches, allowing you to replace compatible switches without soldering.
This makes it easy to customize your typing experience by trying different switch types, such as linear, tactile, or clicky switches. You can also replace individual switches if they become damaged or stop working properly.
To replace a switch, disconnect the keyboard from your computer, remove the keycap using a keycap puller, and carefully extract the switch with a switch puller. Align the replacement switch's pins with the socket before gently pressing it into place.
Always check switch compatibility before purchasing replacements. Hot-swappable sockets do not necessarily support every mechanical switch type, and incorrect installation can damage the switch pins or sockets.
The Knight also supports QMK, VIA, and VIAL for key remapping, allowing you to customize both the physical typing feel and the keyboard's programmable functions.
Does the Knight support QMK/VIA/VIAL programming?
+
Yes. The X-Bows Knight ergonomic mechanical keyboard supports QMK firmware and is compatible with both VIA and VIAL for advanced key customization.
QMK: An open-source keyboard firmware that supports programmable keymaps, layers, macros, and advanced keyboard functions.
VIA: A user-friendly configuration tool that allows you to remap keys and customize supported functions without manually editing firmware code.
VIAL: A QMK-based configuration tool offering additional customization options, including advanced macros and keymap editing.
With these tools, you can personalize the Knight's key assignments, create shortcuts for frequently used applications, configure multiple layers, and tailor the keyboard to your workflow.
The available configuration features depend on the firmware installed. VIA and VIAL may require different firmware builds and should not be assumed to work simultaneously with the same firmware.
For setup instructions, compatible firmware downloads, and configuration guidance, visit the X-Bows Software & Manuals page. Always select the firmware intended for your exact keyboard model and hardware revision.
What makes the X-Bows Nature different from the Knight?
+
The X-Bows Nature and Knight share the same fundamental radial-columnar ergonomic layout, but differ primarily in their construction, weight, and price.
Build materials: The Nature features an aluminum alloy top panel with an ABS plastic chassis, offering a balance of durability and lighter weight. The Knight features a CNC-machined aluminum alloy unibody for a more substantial, premium construction.
Weight: The Nature weighs approximately 690 g, compared with approximately 1,100 g for the Knight. The Nature is easier to move between workspaces, while the Knight offers a heavier, more solid desktop feel.
Typing experience: Both keyboards feature hot-swappable mechanical switches and offer different switch options. The Knight's heavier aluminum construction may produce a different sound and feel, although the actual typing experience depends on the switches and desk setup.
Programming: Both Nature and Knight support QMK firmware, VIA, and VIAL, allowing users to remap keys, configure layers, and create custom shortcuts and macros.
Additional features: The Knight includes detachable magnetic silicone feet for adjusting its typing position.
Which should you choose? The Nature is a good choice if you want the X-Bows ergonomic layout and extensive customization at a more accessible price. The Knight is better suited to users who prefer premium aluminum construction, additional weight, and a substantial desktop typing experience.
Both models offer the same core radial-columnar layout, so the decision comes down mainly to your preferred build quality, weight, and budget.
