As a medical imaging doctor, I’ve spent my career analyzing the intricate structures of the human body.   1. Ulnar Deviation: To align your fingers with the straight rows, your wrists are forced to bend outward, toward your pinky finger. This "ulnar deviation" pinches the entire carpal tunnel structure, putting constant strain on your tendons and nerves.
  2. Forearm Pronation: Your palms are forced to lie flat on the desk, a position called pronation. This twists the two bones in your forearm (the radius and ulna), creating static tension that runs all the way up from your wrist to your elbow and shoulder.

What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

The carpal tunnel is a narrow, rigid passageway in your wrist, about as wide as your thumb. It acts as a conduit for the tendons that control your fingers and, most critically, the median nerve, which provides feeling to your thumb, index, middle, and part of your ring finger.

When the tendons in this tunnel become inflamed from the constant strain of ulnar deviation, they swell. In such a tight space, there is nowhere for that swelling to go. The tendons press against the median nerve, "pinching" it.
